Built in 1915 as a summer home for local lumber baron Martin Brown, the inn is steeped in Vermont history and offers a lookback into the romance of a bygone era. This magnificent mansion has 14 working fireplaces, exquisite molding and woodwork, original hand-printed wall-paper, original light fixtures, a hidden staircase, a haunted bank vault, and an original servant call system. All of these idiosyncrasies make the inn truly unique and compels so many guests to come back year after year.
The inn has 16 guest rooms, each equipped with private bath, that are tastefully furnished with period pieces which suit the age of the inn. Thanks to the inn's prized hilltop location, there is a view from every room; however, the most magnificent view is from the tavern where you can enjoy a light bite to eat, sip a martini or peruse the inn's extensive wine list whilst watching the sun setting over the mountains. The inn's first class continental cuisine restaurant is an experience not to be missed.
The inn now has a fully functioning in-house spa so that you can pamper yourself during your stay as well as a well equipped new gym with a good selection of modern aerobic and resistance equipment.
We have also opened an art gallery of artist Heather Lahaise’s work and planted 1.5 acres of formal gardens designed by award winning English landscape architect John Hall. Located at the front of the house, these elegant yet relaxed perennial gardens and stone terraces set a perfect backdrop for weddings and functions as well as al-fresco dining as you preside over our famous sunset view.
The White House Inn has been run successfully as an inn for more than 30 years. The current owners/innkeepers Stacey, Phil and their extraordinary dog Zorro invite you into their home to enjoy a relaxing stay in this elegant and serene atmosphere.
